Yoga no use for depressed kids

According to University of Melbourne RESEARCHERS, they have found no direct evidence of any benefit from complementary medicines such as yoga, aromatherapy, acupuncture as a treatment for childhood depression.

The research team, led by Anthony Jorm, called for more research into treatments for young people suffering depression.

"Given that antidepressant medication is not recommended as the first line of treatment for children and adolescents ... there is a pressing need to extend the range of treatments available for this group," they wrote in the Medical Journal of Australia.

About 3 per cent of Australians between six and 17 suffer depressive illness in any year.
